Mini Microgreen Market

2/2/2023

Is it almost another Thursday again?!     you betcha!

Me and my micros will be in the Libby Chamber from 12-1pm this Thursday, and if you can't make it then but are in Libby, I might just be able to bring them to you!
The Arugula (½ of the Spicy Mix) is extra poppin green this week!

As more and more flower seeds join the grow room fun, the micros start to feel a little crowded, but they are never left behind.

Who could do that to such verdant lushness!

And growing them isn't glamorous, especially this time of year.

At least in summer, I am outside the greenhouse surrounded by a green field. In winter, I am in the 8x10' walk-in-cooler with a door that freezes shut when it's below 0F outside (as it's 55-60F inside), moving around flats and bags of seeds and soil kinda like your trying to make your bed with you in it, lol.

We do what we must ☺️
What are Microgreens?

  • Microgreens are the young shoots of some of you favorite veggies, herbs, and even edible flowers.
  • They are soil-grown, usually in shallow trays, but sometimes directly in a garden (this is different than sprouts that are germinated in water only)
  • Most grow very fast and harvest is usually within 7-14 days after sowing
  • They are harvested just before or just after the first true leaf appears (this can sometimes be a window of only a few hours!)
  • They are packed full of nutrients and minerals for the good of your body
  • I pick the ones with the tastiest flavors (healthy things don't need to taste icky or bland!)
  • They keep for about 7-10 days after harvest so you gotta buy them fresh and local
These Dried Flower beauties will be making their debut at the Sweethearts Market on Saturday, February 11th. Why not show your sweetheart your everlasting love for them with a bouquet of everlasting flowers?!
With the weather warming up again, the kitties are glad to get outside, especially if it means a rare winter field trip into the greenhouse!
