Millet - Green Drops
Panicum violaceum
I'm an easy growing grass that you can use for decoration or for grain. Yep, Millet is not just birdseed. Try using me instead of rice or quinoa.
For decorative use, either harvest me when I'm fresh and bright green or wait until I get tinged with bronze and use me fresh or hang to dry.
For grain, let me ripen and dry fullybut harvest before seeds drop.
help me grow:
It's easiest to direct seed me after hard frosts are over. It'll be time to begin harvest in about 65-75 days after sowing. I'm an annual that can reseed if you let a few heads remain into winter.
enjoy my bounty:
Harvest when bright green or once I get coppery and use me fresh or let me dry. To keep the graceful spray of my seed heads, stand me up in an empty bucket to dry or hang for them to be straight.
